A New England manufacturer of pipe and other industrial products plans to establish a new production facility in Northeast Texas, company and local officials announced.

New Hampshire-based Maverick Pipe late last year purchased a proposed 150,000-square-foot building in an industrial park in Texarkana, Texas. The company plans to initially invest $20 million in the site. The first phase of the project will develop logistics and distribution operations in the area, while the second — set to begin within 18 months — will establish manufacturing capabilities.

The company initially outlined plans to hire 40 people within six months and add 40 more workers during subsequent expansions, but reports indicated that the project could eventually create 540 jobs.

Maverick, which makes conduits, tubing, fittings, and accessories, credited the Texarkana-area site’s favorable logistics infrastructure for its decision to expand in the Lone Star State. The company sells its products, including electrical metal tubing, rigid metal conduit, strut, and PVC, exclusively through distributors.

“Having a presence in Texas is exciting to us, and the right step for our business,” Maverick CEO Scott Johnson said in the announcement. “Texas is the perfect location for what we plan to accomplish in the years to come.”
